What “cheap PPF” actually means
If you’re seeing PPF quotes 30–40% below the premium-shop range, ask:
- What film brand? XPEL Ultimate, 3M Pro Series, SunTek Reaction — these are premium. Off-brand or unlabeled film is a red flag.
- What’s the warranty? Premium PPF carries a 10-year manufacturer clarity warranty plus the install warranty. Entry-level might offer only 1-2 years.
- Is it self-healing? All premium PPF is. If the shop can’t confirm, it isn’t.
- Edges wrapped or cut at the panel? Wrapped edges (tucked under the panel) cost more labor and look invisible. Cut edges are visible up close.
- Custom-cut to your vehicle or universal kit? Custom-cut films fit better. Universal kits are cheaper but leave gaps.
