Window Film · Automotive
Window tint and film questions.
What is window film?
Window film is a thin polymer applied to the interior surface of glass. Depending on the grade it rejects solar heat, blocks UV, adds privacy, or reinforces the glass against impact. Polar Tint installs premium ceramic and security film exclusively — never metallized film that can interfere with phone or GPS signal.
What’s the difference between window tint and window film?
Same product family. “Tint” usually refers to automotive (vehicle windows). “Film” usually refers to residential and commercial (buildings). Polar Tint installs all three applications — same polymer science, application-specific grade lineups.
How long does window tint last?
Polar Tint Nano Ceramic films are warrantied for the life of the vehicle under the Polar Tint Promise. They resist the fading, bubbling, and purpling that affect lower-grade films within three to five years. Warranty transfers to the next owner.
What’s the darkest legal window tint?
Legal VLT limits vary by state and by window position. Most states allow 30–50% VLT on front side windows and any darkness on rear windows. Your local Polar Tint knows the law in your state and will walk you through the legal limits while installing the look you want.
Is Nano Ceramic window tint worth the price difference?
Ceramic film blocks up to 99% UV and up to 98% IR heat without metallic interference. It costs more than dyed film but lasts roughly three times longer, looks better, and protects your interior from cracking and fade. For most drivers in hot climates, yes.
How long does a window tint install take?
Install time depends on the vehicle. Standard sedans install faster than full-size SUVs, trucks, vans, or anything with complex compound-curve glass. Your local Polar Tint provides an exact time estimate at booking based on your specific vehicle — and we don’t keep your car overnight on routine automotive tint installs.
Can I roll my windows down after install?
Wait 3–5 days before rolling windows down to let the adhesive fully cure. You’ll get specific aftercare guidance at handoff. Premature rolling can disturb the film edge before it bonds.
Will window tint fade, bubble, or turn purple?
Cheap dyed films do all three within 3–5 years. The premium Nano Ceramic film Polar Tint installs is engineered against all three failure modes and carries a lifetime warranty — if it happens, we replace it.
Does Nano Ceramic window film block phone, GPS, or garage opener signal?
No. Ceramic film is non-metallic, so cellular, GPS, garage opener, toll transponder, and satellite radio signals all pass through normally. We don’t install metallized film — that interference is exactly the problem ceramic was engineered to solve.
What is VLT?
VLT stands for Visible Light Transmission — the percentage of visible light that passes through the film. A 35% VLT film lets 35% of light through; a 5% VLT film lets only 5% through (much darker). State tint laws are written in VLT terms.
What is IR rejection?
IR (infrared) rejection is the percentage of solar heat the film blocks — separate from VLT. Polar Tint’s top ceramic grade (Ceramic Ultimate Plus) rejects up to 98% of IR heat. Lower-grade films often have very low IR rejection even at the same VLT darkness.
Which film grade should I pick for a hot climate?
Use the 60-second wizard on the homepage — or simply ask for Ceramic Ultimate Plus. It’s our hot-climate grade, engineered for AZ, NV, TX, FL, and Southern CA drivers. Up to 98% IR heat rejection, 99% UV blocked.
Can I tint my windshield?
In many states, yes — usually with a clear Nano Ceramic film (around 70% VLT) that blocks UV without darkening the glass. Some states allow only a tinted strip at the top. Polar Tint will walk you through your state’s legal limit and install the windshield film you choose.
How do I clean tinted windows?
Wait at least a week after install for full adhesive cure. Then use a soft microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free glass cleaner. Ammonia-based cleaners can degrade the film over time. Avoid abrasive sponges or sharp tools at the edges.
Does window tint help in winter or cold climates?
Yes — Nano Ceramic film blocks UV year-round (which fades interiors regardless of temperature) and reduces solar glare in winter sun. Premium ceramics also have slight insulating benefit. For maximum year-round insulation in residential applications, ask about Polar Tint Low-E.
What’s the difference between ceramic and metallic film?
Metallic film uses thin metal layers to reflect heat — effective, but the metal interferes with cellular, GPS, satellite radio, garage openers, and toll transponders. Ceramic film achieves comparable or better heat rejection using non-conductive ceramic nanoparticles, with zero electronic interference. Polar Tint installs ceramic only.
Will window tint affect my windshield wipers or defroster?
No. Tint is applied to the interior side of the glass; wipers and external sensors are unaffected. Defroster lines (the thin horizontal lines on rear windows) are tinted around, not over, and continue to function normally after install.
Can I tint a sunroof or panoramic roof?
Yes — sunroofs and panoramic roofs benefit enormously from Nano Ceramic tint because they get the most direct sun exposure. Most cars don’t come with effective factory protection on the roof glass. Ask your local Polar Tint about a roof-glass-only quote if that’s your priority.
Do I have to remove old tint before reinstalling?
Yes — quality reinstalls require a fully clean substrate. Removing aged factory or aftermarket film is part of the install at every Polar Tint location. Built-in glass tint (the dark glass from the manufacturer) is not removable; we tint over factory glass tint when you want darker than factory.
Will tinted windows shatter differently in a crash?
Film actually improves safety in a crash — the adhesive holds shattered glass together rather than allowing it to spray into the cabin. This is a side benefit of every Polar Tint install, not just security-grade films. (For dedicated impact protection, ask about Polar Tint Security on residential glass.)
Can I tint my car if it’s a lease?
Yes, but check your lease agreement. Most leases allow professional tint as long as it’s legal in the state. At lease end, professional tint can be removed cleanly by your local Polar Tint without damage to the glass. The Lifetime Polar Tint Promise transfers if you buy the vehicle out of lease.
What VLT looks closest to factory glass?
70% VLT (any grade) reads almost identical to factory-untinted glass while delivering 99% UV protection and meaningful IR rejection. It’s the right pick when you don’t want anyone to notice you’ve tinted — including the inspector.
Does Nano Ceramic tint actually save fuel or extend battery life on EVs?
In hot climates, yes. Lower cabin temperature means less air-conditioning load, which on an EV translates directly to longer range. On ICE vehicles, less AC load means better fuel economy. The effect is most pronounced in Sun Belt states with long, hot summers.
Why does some tint turn purple?
Dyed film fades to purple as UV breaks down the dye over years. Carbon and Nano Ceramic films use color-stable pigments that don’t fade. Every Polar Tint grade is non-fading under our Lifetime Polar Tint Promise — if it ever purples, we re-do it free.
Window Film · Residential
Home window film questions.
How much can residential window film actually lower my AC bill?
In hot climates with sun-facing rooms, Polar Tint solar film typically reduces cooling costs 15–30%. Treated rooms drop in temperature by 10–18°F during peak afternoon sun. Specific savings vary by home size, window count, and climate — we project the dollar impact during the free in-home quote.
Will window film damage my home windows or void my warranty?
Polar Tint installs only films rated as compatible with modern dual-pane and tempered glass. Many window manufacturers explicitly approve premium aftermarket film. We verify your window type at the in-home quote — if there’s any compatibility concern, we flag it before install.
How long does residential window film last?
Premium residential film lasts 15–25 years before any noticeable degradation. Polar Tint backs every install with a Lifetime Polar Tint Promise on film, install, and adhesive. Warranty transfers when you sell the home.
Can window film replace shades, blinds, or curtains?
For heat rejection and UV protection, yes — and it works while you keep the view. Shades and blinds block heat only after light enters the room (too late). Film blocks heat at the glass. Many homeowners keep blinds for nighttime privacy and rely on film for daytime comfort.
Will the film look dark or change appearance from outside?
Modern solar films are nearly clear from inside and have a subtle reflective shimmer from outside in direct sun. Privacy and decorative films are visible by design (frosted, etched, patterned). We show samples in your home before install so you see exactly what to expect.
Can I apply residential window film myself?
DIY kits exist but typically use lower-grade film, single-layer construction, and the installer doesn’t have a dust-controlled environment. Bubbling, peeling, and uneven heat rejection are common DIY failure modes. Professional install is the difference between a 2-year amateur job and a lifetime-warrantied installation.
Does window film work on skylights?
Yes — skylights are one of the biggest heat-gain culprits in vaulted-ceiling homes and ideal candidates for film. Solar film on skylights typically delivers the largest interior-temperature drop per square foot of any residential install.
Does Polar Tint offer security film for break-in prevention?
Yes. Polar Tint Security Film comes in 4–14 mil thicknesses. It holds shattered glass together — an intruder has to keep hitting, often dozens of times, instead of breaking through with one strike. Delays forced entry long enough for an alarm to register. Recommended for ground-floor windows and sliding glass doors.
Will residential window film void my home window warranty?
In most cases, no. Major window manufacturers explicitly allow professional film installation. A few coated low-E units have restrictions. Your local Polar Tint checks the manufacturer’s policy on your specific windows before quoting, and uses film grades compatible with your glass.
How much can residential film lower my AC bill?
In hot climates, homeowners typically see 10–30% summer cooling-cost reduction with Polar Tint Solar on sun-facing windows. Exact savings depend on home size, exposure, insulation, and climate. The payback period averages 3–5 years — faster in Arizona and Nevada.
Is residential film noticeable from inside the house?
Almost not. Polar Tint Solar reads as a subtle tint from the outside (slightly darker reflection) and is barely perceptible from inside — you keep your view. Polar Tint Privacy (one-way reflective) is visible from both sides as a mirrored finish during daylight.
Can I get a decorative or frosted film for privacy?
Yes. Polar Tint Privacy offers frosted, etched-glass, and patterned options for bathrooms, conference rooms, glass partitions, and street-facing windows. Decorative films can be cut to size or full-window. Lifetime adhesive warranty against bubbling, peeling, or yellowing.
Does residential film qualify for any tax credit or rebate?
Some energy-efficient films qualify for federal energy-efficiency credits depending on the year and your filing status. Your local Polar Tint provides the manufacturer’s certificate of compliance — bring it to your tax preparer to confirm eligibility. State and utility-company rebates also exist in CA, AZ, NV, and TX.
How long until the film looks fully clear after install?
A small amount of water haze is normal for the first 5–14 days as the adhesive cures. Larger windows take longer to fully clear. Keep blinds open and let sunlight accelerate the cure. By month one, residential film is indistinguishable from clean glass.
Window Film · Commercial
Commercial window film questions.
What’s the payback period on commercial solar film?
Typical payback in hot climates: 3–7 years on energy savings alone, with the film performing well for 15–25 years. Polar Tint provides a written HVAC-savings projection at quote so you can build it into the property budget or owner pass-through.
Can you install commercial film after hours so we don’t shut down?
Yes. After-hours and weekend installs are standard for commercial. We also stage by floor or zone on larger projects so business continues during the day. The install itself is dust-controlled, low-noise, and interior-only.
Will commercial window film affect my building warranty or insurance?
Premium aftermarket film is approved by most commercial glass manufacturers when applied to compatible glazing types. We verify your glass type at the site walkthrough. Many insurance carriers actually offer premium reductions on policies covering storefronts protected by security film.
Does anti-graffiti film actually work?
Yes — it’s a sacrificial layer. Anyone who scratches, etches, or tags the window damages the film, not the glass. We strip and replace the film at a fraction of the cost of replacing commercial glass (typically 10–20% of new-glass cost per square foot).
Can branded / decorative film be removed if our tenant moves out?
Yes. Polar Tint uses removable-adhesive decorative and branded film by default for tenant spaces, which strips cleanly when the lease ends or branding changes. Permanent options exist for owner-occupied installations.
Do you handle multi-site / national property portfolios?
Yes. Polar Tint locations coordinate nationally for portfolio engagements — single account manager, standardized spec across properties, consistent install quality. Especially useful for retail chains, restaurant groups, and REIT portfolios standardizing their glass program.
Does commercial window film qualify for energy tax credits or utility rebates?
Often, yes. Commercial solar film qualifies under several utility-company commercial-rebate programs in the Southwest, plus federal energy-efficient commercial-building deductions (Section 179D in many cases). Polar Tint provides manufacturer specification sheets your accountant or rebate filer needs.
How long does commercial window film last?
Solar and security: 15–25 years on glass before degradation. Polar Tint backs commercial film with a lifetime warranty on film, install, and adhesive. Anti-graffiti is 5-year because it’s designed to be sacrificially replaced after tagging. Warranties transfer on property sale.
Will commercial film affect natural-light certifications like LEED or WELL?
Polar Tint offers spectrally selective films that maintain high visible-light transmission while rejecting heat and UV. These films are LEED- and WELL-compatible and can contribute to certification points. Specification sheets are provided for sustainability consultants.
Can commercial film be applied to curtain walls and storefronts?
Yes. Polar Tint installs on curtain walls, storefronts, atrium glass, glass partitions, and skylights. Multi-story applications are scheduled with lift access and project-managed across the building envelope. Multi-site rollouts are coordinated for regional and national chains.
What’s the install disruption like for an occupied office?
Most commercial film installs are scheduled after-hours or on weekends so business operations don’t pause. Polar Tint provides a project plan up front with exact zones and timing. Workspaces are returned move-in ready — no dust, no chemical odor, no relocation needed.
Do I need approval from my landlord before installing commercial film?
Usually yes — tenant improvements to glass typically require landlord written approval. Polar Tint provides manufacturer cut sheets, install scope, and the lifetime warranty documentation you can submit with the request. We’ve done this with thousands of property managers nationwide.
Can fleet vehicles get a multi-vehicle discount?
Yes. Polar Tint offers fleet-volume pricing on 5+ vehicle commercial accounts. Bring your fleet manifest to any Polar Tint location and the local manager will quote based on volume, vehicle class, and timeline. Lifetime Polar Tint Promise honored across the fleet, at every location nationwide.
Paint Protection Film
PPF questions.
What is paint protection film (PPF)?
PPF is an optically clear thermoplastic urethane applied directly to your vehicle’s paint. Thick enough to absorb rock chips, road debris, bug splatter, and bird waste before they reach the clear coat. The top layer is self-healing — light scratches and swirl marks disappear with heat.
How long does PPF last?
Premium PPF lasts 7–10 years before any noticeable degradation, and Polar Tint backs it with a 10-year clarity warranty against yellowing — plus the Lifetime Polar Tint Promise on the install. Lower-grade film fails the 5-year mark; that’s why we don’t install it.
PPF vs ceramic coating — which do I need?
They solve different problems. PPF is a physical barrier that stops rock chips and impact damage. Ceramic coating is a chemical bond that adds gloss, repels water, and resists chemical stains — but won’t stop a rock. The premium choice is both: PPF on the panels that get hit, ceramic on top for slick finish.
Does PPF yellow over time?
Cheap PPF yellows within 3–5 years from UV exposure. The premium PPF Polar Tint installs is engineered with non-yellowing topcoats and carries a 10-year clarity warranty — we replace the film if it discolors within that period.
Is PPF worth the cost?
For drivers who keep their cars 3+ years or care about resale value, almost always yes. A single rock-chip repaint of a modern bumper typically costs more than a Full Front PPF install — and PPF protects the entire front-end for the life of the vehicle.
How does self-healing PPF actually work?
The top layer of premium PPF is an elastomeric polyurethane. Light scratches deform the polymer rather than cutting it. Heat (from sun, hot rinse, or heat gun on low) returns the polymer to its original shape — the scratch disappears. Deep gouges that cut through the topcoat don’t self-heal, but the layer underneath still protects paint.
Can PPF be removed cleanly?
Yes. Quality PPF removes in full sheets with heat gun assistance, leaving factory paint untouched underneath. Especially important for leased vehicles, satin PPF over gloss paint, and any owner who might want to revert. We only install film grades tested for clean removal.
How long does PPF installation take?
Track Package: ~4 hours. Full Front: about one full day. Full Vehicle: 3–5 days depending on panel count and complexity. All installs happen in a climate-controlled, dust-controlled bay because PPF requires a perfectly clean surface to bond correctly.
Will PPF damage my paint underneath?
No — opposite. PPF protects the clear coat and base coat from rock chips, UV oxidation, and chemical staining. When removed correctly (with heat), the paint underneath is the same as the day the film went on. We use only film grades tested for clean removal.
What’s the difference between Track Package, Full Front, and Full Vehicle PPF?
Track Package covers just the highest-impact zones (bumper edge, hood leading edge, fenders, mirror caps, door cups) — cheapest entry. Full Front wraps the entire front end (bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors). Full Vehicle wraps every painted panel. Same self-healing film, different coverage areas.
Is PPF visible after install?
Properly installed PPF is virtually invisible. Edges are wrapped under panels or tucked into seams. You see the paint, not the film. Satin Finish PPF intentionally adds a matte effect for owners who want a finish change — that one’s a design choice, not a visibility issue.
Does PPF yellow over time?
Older generations of PPF yellowed under UV. Modern urethane-based films — including every grade Polar Tint installs — use UV inhibitors that prevent yellowing. The Polar Tint Promise warrants against yellowing for the life of the install. If it happens, we replace it.
Can PPF be applied to a used vehicle?
Yes, with prep. Existing paint imperfections, swirl marks, and rock chips should be corrected first — PPF locks in whatever’s underneath it. Your local Polar Tint will recommend paint correction or a ceramic coat before PPF on a used car, or recommend Track Package on a vehicle that doesn’t justify full prep.
What’s self-healing PPF and how does it work?
Self-healing PPF has an elastomeric top layer that returns to its original shape under heat. Light swirl marks and surface scratches disappear when the film warms in the sun, in a warm garage, or with warm water. Every PPF grade Polar Tint installs is self-healing.
Can I stack PPF and ceramic coating?
Yes — pairing is the premium-build pattern. PPF on the high-impact panels (front end, rocker panels, door cups) and ceramic coating over the entire vehicle, including on top of the PPF. Hydrophobic gloss everywhere, rock-chip protection where it counts.
Does PPF require the same care as bare paint?
Similar, with two adjustments: avoid automated car washes with rotating brushes (they can lift edges over years), and use PPF-safe soaps (no harsh solvents, no waxes designed to dissolve paint contaminants). Hand-washing with microfiber is ideal. The Polar Tint Promise covers improper-care exclusions clearly.
What’s the lifespan of professionally installed PPF?
10+ years is realistic with proper care. The film maintains optical clarity, self-healing function, and adhesion well past a decade. The Polar Tint Promise warrants against yellowing, lifting, and bubbling for the life of the vehicle — transferable to the next owner.
Ceramic Coating
Ceramic coating questions.
What is ceramic coating?
Ceramic coating is a liquid nano-polymer (silicon-dioxide or graphene-enhanced) that chemically bonds to your clear coat. Once cured, it forms a hard, glass-like layer that won’t wash off and won’t wear off in normal use — rated 9H or higher on the pencil-hardness scale.
How long does ceramic coating last?
Polar Tint ceramic durability ranges from 2 years (3M ceramic coating) to 5 years (3M ceramic coating, most popular) to 7 years (3M ceramic coating) to lifetime (3M ceramic coating, with annual maintenance check-ins). Longer durability = more layers + harder topcoat + tighter warranty.
Ceramic coating vs wax — what’s the difference?
Wax sits on top of clear coat and washes off in weeks. Ceramic chemically bonds to the clear coat and won’t wash off — it stays for years. Ceramic is also harder (9H+ vs wax’s negligible hardness), more hydrophobic, and protects against chemical staining wax can’t touch.
Is ceramic coating worth it?
For drivers who plan to keep their car 3+ years or care about resale value, almost always yes. Five years of professional wax/sealant maintenance costs as much or more than a one-time 3M ceramic coating install, with worse results. For drivers planning to trade in within a year, 2-year 3M ceramic coating is the better fit.
Will ceramic coating stop rock chips?
No — ceramic is a chemical bond, not a physical barrier. For rock-chip protection you need paint protection film (PPF). The premium choice is both: PPF on high-impact panels, ceramic on top of everything for finish and ease of washing. They’re complementary, not alternatives.
Can I apply ceramic coating myself?
DIY consumer ceramics exist, but they’re typically lower-grade chemistry, single-layer only, and the installer doesn’t have a controlled environment a coating needs to flash and cure correctly. Professional install is the difference between a 6-month effect and a 5-year warranty.
How do I maintain a ceramic-coated car?
Easier than a non-coated car. Wash with a pH-neutral soap and a clean mitt (no automatic brush washes). Avoid abrasive polishes. Dry with a microfiber. 3M ceramic coating and higher include an annual ceramic boost spray at no charge to maintain the hydrophobic layer.
Will ceramic coating remove existing swirl marks or scratches?
Ceramic itself doesn’t — but paint correction does, and it’s part of any multi-layer Polar Tint ceramic install. We machine-polish out swirls and light scratches before the coating goes on. Once ceramic is locked in, the corrected finish is preserved underneath for the warranty period.
Can ceramic be applied over PPF?
Yes — and it’s the recommended pro-grade build. PPF protects against impacts; ceramic on top adds gloss, hydrophobic action, and chemical resistance. Many flagship vehicles get Full Front PPF + 3M ceramic coating ceramic across the body for the ultimate finish-and-defense pairing.
What does “9H hardness” actually mean?
9H refers to the pencil-hardness scale used to test surface coatings — a coating that resists scratching by a 9H pencil is harder than the factory clear coat on your car. Polar Tint’s ceramic tiers are 9H minimum; 3M ceramic coating and Eternal hit 10H.
Will ceramic coating make my car shinier?
Yes — ceramic adds noticeable depth, gloss, and clarity to the existing finish. Dark colors look wetter; light colors get a glass-like sharpness. The effect is most dramatic on a paint-corrected surface, which is why pre-coat correction is part of 3M ceramic coating and Eternal builds.
Can ceramic coating fix existing scratches?
Ceramic doesn’t fill or hide scratches — it locks in whatever’s under it. Paint correction (compounding + polishing) before ceramic application removes the swirls and light scratches so the ceramic seals a corrected finish. Recommended on all but brand-new vehicles.
Does ceramic coating protect against bird droppings and tree sap?
Yes — ceramic resists the acidic etching that bird droppings and tree sap cause on unprotected clear coat. You still want to remove them quickly (the longer they sit, the more force is required), but the underlying paint stays protected from etching damage.
Can I wax over ceramic coating?
You can, but you shouldn’t — wax sits on top and partially blocks the ceramic’s hydrophobic properties. Use a Polar-approved ceramic booster spray instead. It refreshes the existing coating without conflict. Off-brand toppers can void the Polar Tint Promise warranty.
How often should I wash a ceramic-coated car?
Every 2–3 weeks is ideal. The hydrophobic surface means dirt slides off easily — you’ll spend less time washing and the finish stays cleaner longer. Never use automated brush washes (touchless laser-jet only) and always hand-wash with two-bucket method.
Does ceramic coating protect headlights from oxidation?
Yes. Polar Tint applies ceramic coating to polycarbonate headlights as part of full-vehicle builds (or as a standalone). The coating blocks UV and prevents the milky oxidation that destroys factory headlights over years. Faded headlights are polished first, then coated.
Can I apply ceramic to wheels, exhaust tips, and trim?
Yes — wheels especially benefit. Brake dust rinses off ceramic-coated wheels with a hose. Polar Tint offers wheel-and-caliper coating as an add-on. Exhaust tips, plastic trim, and glass also accept dedicated ceramic formulas tuned for those substrates.
Decals & Wraps
Wraps and custom vinyl questions.
How long do vehicle wraps last?
Premium cast-vinyl wraps last 5–7 years on a daily driver in normal conditions. Polar Tint installs only cast-vinyl-grade wraps — never calendared vinyl, which fails much faster. Sun exposure, garaging, and wash habits affect lifespan.
Will a wrap damage my factory paint?
No — cast vinyl removes cleanly with heat-gun assistance, leaving factory paint untouched. In fact, wraps PROTECT paint from UV oxidation and minor abrasion underneath. Important: paint must be in good condition before install (no peeling clear coat), or the vinyl can pull paint when removed.
Color change wrap vs repaint — which makes more sense?
Wraps for under 5-year ownership or if you want reversibility (back to factory). Repaint for permanent change and if you don’t care about resale flexibility. Premium wraps cost less than a quality repaint, can be removed cleanly, and protect the paint underneath while installed.
What’s included with a fleet graphics quote?
Design (or you provide brand guidelines), printing, and install across the fleet on a coordinated schedule. Multi-vehicle engagements get a single account manager and standardized brand spec so every vehicle in the fleet matches.
Can I get custom decals for a single vehicle?
Yes. One-off custom decals — logo, lettering, racing stripes, accent graphics — are done at the same shop that handles fleet work. Bring artwork (or work with our designer) and we’ll cut, weed, and install.
How long do vehicle wraps last?
Quality cast-vinyl wraps last 5–7 years on a daily-driven vehicle in mixed climates, longer if garage-kept. UV-resistant overlaminates extend lifespan in hot-climate states. The Polar Tint Promise covers print fade, edge lift, and adhesive failure for the warranted lifespan of the film.
Will a wrap damage my paint when removed?
No — professionally installed wraps remove cleanly when the install paint was in good condition. Wraps applied over chipped, peeling, or repainted-poorly surfaces can lift the substrate paint when removed. Polar Tint inspects the paint before wrapping and recommends paint correction first if needed.
Can I combine wrap colors or patterns on one vehicle?
Yes. Multi-color wraps, accent panels, satin-and-gloss combinations, and digitally printed graphics over wrap base colors are all standard work. Bring a vision (or a Pinterest board) and our designer mocks up exactly how it’ll read on your vehicle before any film is cut.
The Polar Tint Promise
Warranty + guarantee questions.
What exactly does “lifetime” mean in the Lifetime Polar Tint Promise?
Life of the vehicle, home, or property — the underlying asset the film is installed on. Most film manufacturers offer a limited 5- or 10-year warranty; the Polar Tint Promise extends past that for the full useful life of the asset. If your vehicle is on the road, your warranty is active.
Is the Polar Tint Promise transferable?
Yes. The warranty transfers to the next owner with no paperwork fee. We document the install in our system so the next owner can confirm warranty status at any Polar Tint location. This makes a Polar Tint install resale-positive — an asset, not a depreciating sticker.
Does the warranty work at any Polar Tint location?
Yes — the Polar Tint Promise is honored at every Polar Tint location nationwide. Get your car tinted in Henderson, NV, move to Parker, CO, file a warranty claim there. The network coordinates internally.
What’s NOT covered by the Polar Tint Promise?
Physical impact damage (rocks, vandalism, collisions), chemical exposure outside normal use, and anything caused by improper aftercare specifically documented in the post-install instructions. Normal wear, fading, bubbling, peeling, delamination, and color shift are all covered.
How do I file a warranty claim?
Walk into any Polar Tint location with the vehicle, home address, or property documentation. We pull your install record and assess. Most warranty repairs happen same-day. No corporate run-around — the local manager is empowered to honor the Polar Tint Promise.
Does the Polar Tint Match Guarantee apply to all six services?
Yes — it applies across all six service categories. Same rules: bring a written quote from a licensed competitor for the same product and the same coverage spec, and we match. The Polar Tint Promise warranty still applies on top of the matched price.
What happens to my warranty if my local Polar Tint closes?
Warranties are honored network-wide, not just at the install location. If a specific location closes (rare — the network is expanding, not contracting), your warranty is still serviceable at the nearest Polar Tint. We coordinate transfers internally.
Is the Lifetime Polar Tint Promise included in the price, or extra?
Included. The Polar Tint Promise is part of every install, not an extra-cost add-on like extended warranties some shops sell. The film, install, adhesive, and lifetime coverage are all bundled into the install price you’re quoted.
Does the warranty transfer to the next owner?
Yes. The Lifetime Polar Tint Promise transfers on private sale — one transfer free, additional transfers handled at the local Polar Tint. The next owner gets the same coverage. This is one of the underrated resale-value bumps premium tint adds to a vehicle.
What does the lifetime warranty actually cover?
Film failure (bubbling, peeling, cracking), color failure (fading, purpling, discoloration), adhesive failure (lifting at edges), and install defects (cut errors, visible seams). It does NOT cover damage from accidents, deliberate cutting, abrasive cleaners, or rolling windows down inside the cure window.
What’s the Polar Tint Match Guarantee?
Bring a written quote from any licensed local shop for the same film and the same coverage. Polar Tint matches it. The Polar Tint Promise (lifetime warranty) still applies on top — you get the same price plus the warranty most shops don’t offer.
Can I file a warranty claim at a different location than where I got the install?
Yes. The Polar Tint Promise is honored at every Polar Tint location nationwide. Walk in with vehicle + install record (digital or printed), and the local manager assesses on the spot. Most warranty repairs handled in a single visit.
What if Polar Tint closes the location where I got my install?
The warranty is on the Polar Tint brand, not the specific franchisee. If your original location closes, any other Polar Tint location honors the same coverage. Install records are stored in the central system — your VIN unlocks your warranty regardless of which shop handles the claim.
Locations & Booking
Finding and booking a Polar Tint.
How do I find my nearest Polar Tint?
Use the Find a Location page. Enter your ZIP, type a city, or click Use my location to auto-detect. We show the three nearest Polar Tints sorted by driving distance, with hours, address, and a direct link to each location’s page.
What if there’s no Polar Tint in my city yet?
We’re actively expanding across the Sun Belt and other high-demand markets. The Find a Location page will tell you the nearest existing shop — or, if you’d like to see one open near you (or own one), the franchise opportunity page is the next step.
How do I book a Polar Tint appointment?
Each Polar Tint location handles its own bookings. Find your nearest shop on the Find a Location page, click through to their page, and book via the location’s scheduler — or call them directly. Same-day appointments are common.
Walk-in or appointment — which is better?
Appointments guarantee a slot at your chosen time and let us prep the bay for your specific vehicle. Walk-ins are welcome when bays are available. For larger jobs (PPF, full-vehicle ceramic), appointments are required.
Are Polar Tint locations independently owned?
Each Polar Tint location is independently owned and operated under the Polar Tint franchise system. Owners follow Polar Tint’s product specifications, install standards, and warranty policies — which is what makes the Lifetime Polar Tint Promise honored nationwide. Local management, national standards.
How do I book an appointment?
Click “Find a Location” in the nav, pick your nearest Polar Tint, and book directly with the shop. Each location has its own contact, hours, and online booking. The local team gives you an exact time estimate for your specific vehicle and service before confirming.
Do you offer mobile installation at my home or office?
Window film, PPF, and ceramic coating require dust-controlled bay conditions for warrantied work — mobile installs introduce dust contamination that compromises adhesion. Residential and commercial window film IS installed on-site at the property; automotive work is bay-only at the location.
What if there’s no Polar Tint near me?
The Polar Tint network is expanding. Check the locations page for current shops and roadmap. If you’re a business owner interested in opening a Polar Tint in your market, visit /about/franchise/ for the franchise opportunity.
Can I get a quote without visiting in person?
Most locations provide ballpark pricing by phone or email if you supply vehicle year/make/model and the service. Exact quotes are confirmed in person because vehicle condition (existing film, paint correction needs, complex glass) affects scope. Bring written competitor quotes for Polar Tint Match Guarantee.
Do Polar Tint locations work weekends?
All Polar Tint locations are open 7 days a week, generally 8am–5pm. Check the specific location’s hours on its page before booking. Weekend appointments are often the most-requested slots — book ahead in summer when tint demand peaks.
Pricing & Process
Pricing, payment, and what to expect on install day.
How do I get pricing for a specific service?
Pricing is set by each Polar Tint location based on vehicle/property size, complexity, and the grade or coverage level you pick. Click any location and contact them directly — most quotes happen same-day. Bring any licensed competitor quote and we’ll match it under the Polar Tint Match Guarantee.
Why doesn’t the website list specific prices?
Pricing depends on vehicle size, paint condition, coverage level, and local market — numbers vary too much for a static list to be useful. We’d rather give you a real quote from your nearest shop than a marketing range that turns out to be wrong.
What is the Polar Tint Match Guarantee?
If you bring a written quote from a licensed competitor for the same film grade and the same coverage spec, your local Polar Tint will match the price. The Lifetime Polar Tint Promise still applies on top — you don’t lose warranty value to get a competitive number.
Do you offer financing?
Most Polar Tint locations offer financing for larger projects (Full Vehicle PPF, multi-room residential film, multi-tier ceramic). Specific financing partners and terms vary by location — ask when you book or quote.
What forms of payment do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards, cash, and most digital wallets at every Polar Tint location. Larger commercial and fleet engagements typically use NET-30 invoicing — ask at quote.
Do you offer a military or first-responder discount?
Yes. Polar Tint locations offer a discount for active military, veterans, first responders, and teachers. Verification typically requires ID at check-in. Discount amount and stacking rules vary by location — ask when you book.
How long until I can drive my car after install?
Immediately for window tint and ceramic coating — both are touch-cured by the time you leave the bay. Avoid washing for the time specified at handoff (typically 3 days for tint, 7 days for ceramic). PPF has similar same-day drive rules with a 48-hour wash wait.
What’s the cure time for ceramic, PPF, and window film?
Ceramic coating: touch-cured in 24 hours, full cure in 7 days. PPF: bonded immediately, full adhesive cure in 48 hours. Window film: surface-cured at handoff, full adhesive cure in 30 days (small water haze may appear during this period and clears on its own).
Why do quotes differ from shop to shop?
Film grade, install precision, warranty coverage, prep work included, and shop overhead all vary. The cheapest quote often skips paint correction, uses inferior film, or excludes warranty. Polar Tint Match Guarantee normalizes apples-to-apples: bring any licensed competitor quote for the same film and coverage, we match it.
Does Polar Tint offer financing or payment plans?
Many Polar Tint locations partner with third-party financing providers for larger jobs (Full Vehicle PPF, multi-layer ceramic, whole-home film). Ask the local shop during quote — financing options are arranged at the location level, not corporate.
Are there discounts for military or first responders?
Most Polar Tint locations offer service-member, veteran, and first-responder discounts. Bring valid ID at quote. Discount amount varies by location and service. Not stackable with Polar Tint Match Guarantee on the same job.
Is there a deposit required to book?
For most automotive tint and standalone ceramic jobs, no — you pay at completion. Larger jobs (Full Vehicle PPF, whole-home residential film, multi-site commercial) typically require a deposit to lock the schedule and materials. Each location sets its own policy.
Do you accept credit cards and digital wallets?
Every Polar Tint location accepts major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover), Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Cash is accepted but discouraged for warranty purposes — we want a digital paper trail tied to your install record.
Will Polar Tint price-match an online quote?
Polar Tint Match Guarantee requires a written quote from a licensed local shop for the same film and the same coverage — not online estimators or out-of-area discounters. The matched quote still includes the Lifetime Polar Tint Promise, so you’re getting the warranty most competitor quotes don’t bundle.
Tint Laws & Legal
State law and compliance questions.
Where can I check my state’s tint laws?
Your nearest Polar Tint location knows the law in your state by VLT, by window position, and by any medical-exemption rule. We don’t install anything that’s out of state spec — we’ll show you the law in writing before booking if you want it.
Will I get a ticket for tint installed by Polar Tint?
We install to the spec you request and walk you through your state’s legal VLT so you know exactly where the line is. Many states also allow medical-exemption tint that’s darker than the legal default. With proper exemption paperwork on file, that tint is fully legal — bring documentation if you want to claim the exemption.
Is there a medical exemption for darker tint?
Most states have a medical-exemption form (your physician completes it) that allows VLT darker than the standard legal limit for documented light-sensitivity conditions. The form gets filed with your state and kept in the vehicle. Polar Tint can install darker tint once exemption paperwork is in hand.
Can I tint my windshield legally?
In many states, yes — usually with a clear Nano Ceramic film (around 70% VLT) that blocks UV without darkening the glass. Some states allow only a tinted strip at the top above the AS-1 line. Your local Polar Tint knows your state’s exact rule and will walk you through it before installing your windshield film.
What happens if I move to a state with stricter tint laws?
If your existing tint is darker than your new state allows, you have two options: (1) remove or replace the film at any Polar Tint location to bring it into compliance, or (2) check if your new state honors medical-exemption paperwork issued elsewhere. The local Polar Tint can guide you through either path.
What’s a medical exemption and how do I get one?
A medical exemption allows darker tint than your state legally permits, granted by your state DMV with documentation from a licensed physician. Conditions like lupus, photosensitive porphyria, severe photophobia, and post-melanoma protection qualify in most states. Each state has its own form; your local Polar Tint can point you to it.
Will tint affect my vehicle inspection or registration?
In most states, tint VLT is checked during safety/emissions inspection if your state has one. Tint below your state’s VLT limit can fail inspection and block registration renewal. Polar Tint will explain exactly where your state draws the line and install the film you choose.
What about reflectivity laws?
Most states cap window-film reflectivity (typically 25%–35% max). Mirror-finish tint is illegal nearly everywhere on automotive. All Polar Tint automotive grades are non-reflective and comply with every state. Polar Tint Privacy residential and commercial films come in both reflective and non-reflective — we use the right grade for the law.
Are commercial trucks held to the same VLT rules as cars?
Many states have separate (often more permissive) tint rules for commercial vehicles, RVs, vans, and multi-purpose vehicles. Some states allow Any% on rear cabin glass behind the driver. Bring your vehicle classification (commercial registration, MPV) to the quote — your local Polar Tint knows the rule in your state.
Can police pull me over just for tint?
In most states, yes — visibly illegal tint is probable cause. Some states downgrade tint to a secondary offense (you can only be cited if pulled over for something else). Your local Polar Tint knows the rule in your state and will walk you through it so you can decide on your install with full information.
What’s a fix-it ticket and how does it work?
A fix-it ticket (correctable violation) lets you avoid the fine by removing or replacing illegal tint within a set window (usually 30 days). You bring the corrected vehicle to a court or police station for verification. Bring the ticket to your local Polar Tint — we’ll bring the install into compliance and document it.
Do tint laws apply to passengers vs the driver’s side?
Most states have one VLT standard for both front side windows (driver and front passenger). Rear side windows and the rear glass are usually treated more permissively. Front windshield is always the strictest — almost every state limits the windshield to a small AS-1 strip across the top.
Is residential or commercial window film regulated by law?
Residential and commercial window film is not regulated by VLT or reflectivity in most jurisdictions — it’s a private-property choice. Some HOAs or commercial-property leases restrict reflective film on external-facing windows. Polar Tint provides product specs you can attach to HOA or landlord approval requests.
If I drive across multiple state lines, which state’s law applies?
The state your vehicle is registered in sets the law your vehicle must comply with. Driving through stricter states with legal-at-home tint is generally fine — you can’t be cited for a violation that doesn’t apply to your registration state, though some jurisdictions take a stricter view. If you cross-state-commute, get the tint legal at the destination state to be safe.
