The Mojave doesn’t give paint a break. Summer afternoons routinely push past 110°F, UV exposure is relentless year-round, and the valley’s hard water leaves mineral spots that can etch into unprotected clear coat. Here is what a ceramic layer changes:
- Hard-water spots: the hydrophobic surface makes water bead and roll off instead of drying into mineral spots.
- UV and heat: UV-stable chemistry helps slow the clear-coat oxidation the desert sun speeds up.
- Bird droppings, bug acid, sap and brake dust: chemical resistance at the coating layer helps keep them from etching the clear coat.
- Easier washes: a two-bucket wash with pH-neutral soap is the routine; no clay bar or compound is part of regular upkeep.

Coating vs. tint
Ceramic coating and ceramic window tint are different services.
Ceramic coating is a liquid applied to painted surfaces. Nano Ceramic window tint is a film applied to glass to reject infrared heat and block 99% of UV. They solve different problems, and you can ask about both at the same quote.

How a coating job works
What happens when you ceramic coat a vehicle.
- Inspection: a certified Polar Tint installer walks the vehicle with you under shop lights, reviews the paint, recommends a tier and flags any paint correction needed.
- Written quote: scope, install date and warranty terms, before anything is scheduled.
- Paint correction where needed: single, two or three-stage, because ceramic locks in whatever gloss is underneath, including swirl marks, light scratches and water-spot etching.
- Coating application: the 3M coating goes on in a controlled environment by a certified installer.
- Cure: the coating needs only a short cure. Keep the car dry, uncovered and unwashed for the first 24 hours. After that, touchless and hand washes are both fine (hand wash with pH-neutral soap is best practice). Automatic brush car washes are never recommended.
